Laura Luke CASE STUDY
As a personal trainer, one of the most common debates I come across is “is it worth investing in a personal trainer? Isn’t it just easier to train yourself in a gym?” there are no two ways about it, yes, just buying a sole gym membership is technically cheaper. With some fees starting around £20 a month. However, if you look at the statistics, last year in the UK alone, Brits wasted a staggering £558 million paying for a gym membership that they never used. When questioned, 25% of ex-gym goers reported they stopped training as their facilities were always too busy when they did show up. When you look at wasting money down the drain on a gym membership you aren’t using compared to paying for the dedication of a trainer to keep you accountable to your goals and actually yield results from your investment, is training solo really the cheaper option?
This months case study, I caught up with Laura who before starting her sessions, wasn’t seeing any improvements when training alone. Here’s what she had to say about our sessions:
“I started training with Luke about 18 months ago in October 2016. Before our sessions, I had been going to the gym for a while, but in all honesty, no much was happening. I was trying to use the machines, but I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I wanted some help, and so after seeing Lukes advert, I thought that I would give it a go. I didn’t have any clearly defined goals. I just knew that I wanted to gain muscle mass and the confidence to be able to train on my own.
Training with Luke has been excellent. I train three times a week, twice with Luke and once on my own using routines that he has taught me. We spent a lot of time working on my legs and my arms which Luke has encouraged me on every step of the way. His motivation has been really helpful, and I’ve seen a transformation that I don’t feel I would have achieved on my own. We always have something to work towards as well which is great. Every four weeks, we change up the routine, revisit where any improvements have been made, and what I can do to stay on target to that goal. I love the accountability of our sessions as I consciously make decisions whereas I wouldn’t have done training alone. I know he is going to ask what I have been up to and what I’ve eaten, so he keeps me focused. I’ve had times where I worry about getting repetitive but Luke’s great at listening and talking about the importance of each workout. If I ever feel uncomfortable about anything, he’s there to help and offer an alternative. I’ve seen some fantastic results, and I feel that Lukes flexibility has been a big part of that. I’ve definitely achieved what I set out to. Everything that he’s taught me has given me the confidence that I wanted in the gym. Training used to be quite intimidating, but his friendly patient attitude has made it a breeze. For the future, I’d like to keep working towards building muscle definition, and I know with Lukes help I’ll get there. “
